OC Company Boss To Asian Employee: You Can't Speak Vietnamese Even On Private Time

Australia’s Channel 7 network has been found guilty by the press regulator of serious violations of the broadcasting code, after screening a report so extreme it was branded ‘Freakshow TV’ by Survival International.
The report labelled Brazil’s Suruwaha tribe as child murderers; ‘Stone Age’ relics; and ‘one of the worst human rights violators in the world’.
Survival complained to Australia’s regulator ACMA after Channel 7 refused Survival’s request to issue a correction to its report, broadcast on its Sunday Night programme.
In a landmark judgment, ACMA has now ruled that the Channel was guilty of breaking its racism clause – ‘provoking intense dislike, serious contempt or severe ridicule against a person or group’ – believed to be the first time it has found a broadcaster guilty of this serious offence under the 2010 TV Code. It has also ruled that the Channel was guilty of broadcasting inaccurate material.
Survival’s Director Stephen Corry said today, ‘This was one of the worst reports about contemporary tribal people we’d ever seen. The Indians were made out to be cruel and inhuman monsters, in the spirit of 19th century colonialist scorn for ‘primitive savages’.
‘What makes it even worse is that the Suruwaha have been under attack by fundamentalist missionaries for years, who are waging a campaign slandering them as child-murderers. The missionaries are behind a draft law to allow them to remove Indian children from their communities, something with horrifying echoes of the Stolen Generations scandal.
‘The Channel 7 crew told the Suruwaha they wanted to allow them to put their side of the story – but actually produced one of the most grotesquely distorted pictures of a tribal people we can remember. The programme even openly fundraised for the missionaries on its website. We hope this ruling will mean we’re less likely to see such dangerous rubbish on TV in the future.’
Channel 7 is seeking a judicial review of the ruling in Australia’s Federal Court.

Survival has written a set of ethical guidelines to help filmmakers work responsibly with tribal peoples. It is also using its Stamp it Out campaign to challenge racist depictions, however unwitting, in the media.
Previously, Survival has highlighted how British TV company Cicada Films was accused of irresponsibly endangering the lives of Peruvian Indians by allegedly provoking a flu epidemic amongst them; and how a TV series about an Amazonian tribe was labelled ‘staged, false, fabricated and distorted’ by experts.

Discrimination against white people

brashblacknonbeliever:

Anti-white hate crimes are far fewer than anti-black hate crimes.

Here are the FBI’s 2008 stats:

By bias motivation An analysis of data for victims of single-bias hate crime incidents showed that:

51.0 percent were victimized because of the offender’s bias against a race.

17.9 percent were targeted because of a bias against a religious belief.

17.6 percent were victims because of a bias against a particular sexual orientation.

12.7 percent were targeted because of a bias against an ethnicity/national origin.

0.9 percent were victimized because of a bias against a disability.

(Based on Table 1.)

Racial bias More than half of the single-bias hate crimes were racially motivated. Of the 4,934 victims of these racial bias crimes:

72.9 percent were victims of an offender’s anti-black bias.

16.8 percent were victims because of an anti-white bias.

3.4 percent were targeted because of an anti-Asian/Pacific Islander bias.

1.3 percent were victims because of an anti-American Indian/Alaskan Native bias.

5.6 percent were victims because of a bias against a group of individuals in which more than one race was represented (anti-multiple races, group).

(Based on Table 1.)

Source: http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/hc2008/victims.html

Please remember, everyone, that black people are 12-15% of the population at the most. That the majority of race motivated hate crimes are against black people is not a coincidence or “magic number anomaly”. Nor is the fact that white people are the the victims less often when there are far more white people than black people.

Southside Remittances: In light of that hatin' White bitch's bullshit NYT article about Gabby's momma

kashbran:

witchsistah:

I’m reminded of how often WW have created a negative, competitive atmosphere with me, meaning they are the ones that initiated it and I wasn’t even thinking that way.  I’m usually just trying to get through my day and suddenly here’s this shifty-acting White chick all salty over me because of some racist misogynistic, anti-BW bullshit she’s got going on in HER head.  It’s the heffa who smugly mentions her address when she finds out I and my husband have a house in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in town.  It’s the chick who’s suddenly cold to me when she finds out I’m married AND my husband is White.  It’s the ganch who wants to treat me like I’m at home barefoot in the kitchen and makes all sorts of passive-aggressive remarks when she finds out I am a housewife who doesn’t have to work outside the home when I never in any way presented myself as such.  And I’m left scratching and then shaking my head because I never came at her the way she’s coming at me.

It’s the White bitch who schemes, and all too often succeeds, in getting rid of the Black woman at the job who the guys think is attractive/smart/competent.  The fellas in the mailroom think you’re dope?  It doesn’t matter if this chick is an account executive, you’re about to be gone.  Dress too good for a Black woman?  Obviously, you’re making WAY too much money.  Better talk to the higher ups about cutting your salary or eliminating your job.  Get a compliment about how you do your job from a higher up?  She’ll make sure to meticulously document and broadcast any and every mistake you ever make even if she’s not in your department, even if she’s not your boss, even if she’s the same level as you!

And the thing is, we never realize till the end, or near it, that we were in a competition.  A Miss America on meth.  We thought we were just working a job or talking with peers.  We didn’t know that by not living a low-down, perpetually suffering, dingy, dirty properly shitty Black woman life in front of White women we had enrolled ourselves in a best-woman contest.

And that’s the thing.  We don’t even have to be living absolutely fabulous, lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous lives.  Just not appearing to be ground down into pulp is enough to raise WW’s ire at us.  I worked with a chick who had the nerve to be unpleasantly shocked that I live in a HOUSE.  I didn’t last in that job.  I’ve had WW turn on me when they found out I spoke foreign languages and had traveled and studied overseas.  I’ve seen the green eyed monster from WW when a WM guessed my chrono age to be 15 years younger (and then he really killed ol’ girl with “I thought you were 27 AT THE MOST”) than my actual one.   Hell, I’ve gotten hate from being a housewife and not out there totin’ someone’s barge and liftin’ someone’s bail.

WW have always competed with BW since we arrived on American shores.  Sumptuary laws were passed in America so that BW’s looks and beauty would not rival WW’s.  There were some places where BW were not allowed to wear the elaborate hats and hairstyles WW were affecting.  We could only wear scarves as head coverings.  Those laws were a bust as BW learned how to rock the looks they were allowed to perfection.  We wrapped our heads with such eclat that we all too often caught the eyes of WW’s husbands, fathers and brothers despite the laws desperately trying to give WW a head start in feminine pulchritude.

The fact that bs article was a WW trying to pit herself against a Black mother was just another instance of WW trying to force BW into competition with them and then trying to twist the rules, change them midway, stack the deck and straight up cheat their way into first place.  Mostly, they just don’t tell you they’re competing even as they do every dirty trick in the book.  It’s like someone deciding to race you by just taking off running and not telling you when to start, where the finish line is or even that you’re racing in the first place all the while strewing tacks and nails all in your way while they’re running.

It’s funny to me, because WW’s insecurity regarding BW is always just under the surface in our relations with each other.  It’s a huge component as to why BW can’t trust WW.  It’s why so many BW are not interested in joining WW’s movements and organizations.  It’s not that we don’t understand feminism or disagree with its fundamental ideology.  It’s that we know you all’s virulent insecurity vis a vis your feelings of White superiority vs. Black women’s capabilities will erupt all over us and we’ll be the victim.  The fact that you all react so outsize to it, messing with and endangering BW’s livelihoods, health, wealth, families make dealing with it and you all so not worth the effort or chance.

I gotta get ready for this in life.

Kansas House approves discriminatory "religious exemption" bill

donkeyhot:

gaywrites:

The House in Kansas yesterday voted 89-27 to pass a bill that allows people to “opt out” of the antidiscrimination laws that protect LGBT people by claiming these laws “violate their religious freedom.” It will now move to the Senate.

Essentially, a business, employer or the like could claim homosexuality was against their religion and therefore fire a gay employee or kick a gay renter out of a house based on their own beliefs. And this would be legal.

The idea for the bill, called the “Kansas Preservation of Religious Freedom Act,” came in reaction to the college town of Lawrence passing an anti-discrimination ordinance that included sexual orientation. The new state law would nullify that and any other local anti-discrimination ordinance that included sexual orientation by granting citizens the right to opt out if they felt it conflicted with their religious beliefs.

“I don’t think an ordinance should trump other people’s religious rights,” said Rep. Jan Pauls, a Democrat on the Judiciary Committee that heard testimony about the bill. During a forum earlier this year, Pauls gave an example to explain why she backs the bill, saying an employer should be allowed to fire a “cross dresser.”

Oh, this is scary. Why is it so difficult to understand that discrimination is never OK?

I just don’t get this.

  1. All Asians look like John Cho.
  2. Asians know everything. Seriously, everything. And they can probably fly in secret and they just don’t tell us.
  3. If an Asian person tells you to do something, for the love of god, do it. NEVER cross them.
  4. Black people are all hard. Every one. They’re hard as fuck. You can’t break them with a hammer.
  5. Despite being really hard, black people tend to die very easily and repeatedly.
  6. Despite black people dying really easily, cops still need to shoot them and/or taze them and/or tackle them in large groups to the floor.
  7. Attractive white men will rarely suspect suspicious attractive white women. The only people who will are black or latino people and other attractive white women.
  8. God is black, but only a tame kind of black.
  9. All black people look alike.
  10. White women are very delicate and special.
  11. Despite white women being very delicate and special, they often seem to live through entire shows.
  12. Despite white women having higher survival rates than probably anyone else, everyone falls over themselves to protect them, almost as if they are in danger.
  13. Black people know all other black people. All of them. Seriously every single one.
  14. Most Latinos just look like white people.
  15. The ones that don’t are very, very HARRRRRRD.
  16. Muslims and Middle Easterners who aren’t completely Americanized down to the tiniest degree are barbaric and horrific. But at least you can count on your Americanized ones to side with white people on just how barbaric they are.

  18. Darker-skinned black people all come from the skreets. Suburban upper or middle class black people are all light skinned. Very light skinned.
  19. Non-white trans women only hold two jobs; prostitute and casualty of prostitution.
  20. Lesbians are all white.
  21. If a trans woman isn’t a prostitute, she’s definitely white.
  22. Trans men are also all white.
  23. Gay men are mostly white except for black guys who share their massive black dicks.
  24. The few massive-black-dick-sharing gay guys are all on the down-low.
  25. There may be a few secret queer Latinos.
  26. Gay Asians don’t exist. Gay Indigenous definitely don’t exist.
  27. Indigenous people are werewolves, or they teach white people lots of things and send them on spirit journeys and stuff using magical native potions. Also spirit animals.
  28. Despite PoC having so much magic and giving white people so much education, they always need to be saved by white people in the end. What the heck are they using all this magical education for????

Asian-American soldier was forced by comrades to crawl 100m on gravel while being pelted with rocks hours before he killed himself

paach:

The parents of a New York City Army private who committed suicide in Afghanistan have been told distressing new details of the racial bullying and mistreatment their son endured at the hands of his comrades.

A spokeswoman for Chen’s parents said investigators told them that on the day of his death, he was forced to crawl 100 metres on gravel with his equipment on as fellow GIs threw rocks at him.

Speaking through an interpreter, his mother said her 19-year-old son was called ‘dragon lady’ and derogatory phrases.

Soldiers made him give orders in Chinese while they mocked him. He was also forced to do multiple push-ups and sprints.

Private Danny Chen, who grew up in New York’s Chinatown area, was found dead in a guard tower at Combat Outpost Palace on October 3 after apparently committing suicide.

Eight U.S. soldiers serving in Afghanistan have been charged in connection with multiple counts of negligent homicide, assault and involuntary manslaughter.

Chen’s parents met with Army officials at the Fort Hamilton base in Brooklyn, where Army officers released the results of their investigation.

They later held a news conference where they revealed the distressing new details.

On the day of his death, Chen was forced to crawl on gravel while soldiers threw rocks at him.

He was separately taunted and mocked, all because he was the only Chinese-American in his unit, said Elizabeth OuYang, a spokeswoman for the family.

‘Almost immediately after he arrived, Danny was required to do exercises, which quickly, within a few days, crossed over into abuse,’ she said.

The alleged anti-Asian bullying and taunting started during basic training when fellow soldiers used a mocking accent while calling him Jackie Chen; others allegedly told him to ‘go back to China’.

On September 27, OuYang said a sergeant dragged Chen out of bed and over gravel, which left him with shoulder bruises and cuts on his back. The top two leaders of the platoon knew about this, she said, but chose not to report it.

His mother, who wept throughout the conference, told reporters that the pain of her only son’s death still has not subsided.

His father urged that the trial of eight fellow soldiers, for an array of counts from dereliction of duty to negligent homicide, should be held in the United States, not in Afghanistan.

‘The family has been through absolute hell,’ OuYang added. ‘They must have the right to face those who are found guilty.’

The family also is awaiting answers from 25 questions they asked the Army, they said, which promised a response by January 13.

Investigations continue into Chen’s death. It is now no longer clear whether Private Chen, who was from the Chinatown area of Manhattan did in fact take his own life.

Hundreds of supporters held a vigil recently after demanding officials address the treatment of Asians in the military, reported MSNBC.

His cousin Banny Chen read out a letter sent by Private Chen in February at the vigil last Thursday, which said: ‘Everyone knows me by Chen’.

‘They ask if I’m from China a few times a day,’ he wrote. ‘They also call out my name Chen in a goat-like voice sometimes for no reason.

‘People crack jokes about Chinese people all the time. I’m running out of jokes to come back at them.’

Around 400 people were at the vigil and march in Manhattan as Occupy Wall Street protesters also got involved.

Asian Pacific Americans civil rights group OCA has expressed outrage at what happened and have their own theory on why he was allegedly abused.

‘They did it because they knew that there was an environment that they would get away with it,’ an OCA spokesman said, reported NBC New York.

FAMILY ENCOURAGED

Relatives of Private Chen said they are encouraged to learn of the charges brought.

His father Yen Tao Chen said the family realises he will never return, but the news ‘gives us some hope’.

First Lieutenant Daniel J. Schwartz, Staff Sergeant Blaine G. Dugas and Staff Sergeant Andrew J. Van Bockel were all charged.

Sergeant Adam M. Holcomb, Sergeant Jeffrey T. Hurst, Specialist Thomas P. Curtis, Specialist Ryan J. Offutt and Sergeant Travis F. Carden were also charged.

All eight soldiers are of 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

Now to “Reverse Racism.” It’s crucial to maintain the distinction between the above three terms, because otherwise white people tend to redefine “Discrimination” as “Racism”. Their main argument is that because both blacks and white can discriminate against each other, that “Reverse Racism” is possible. But the truth of the matter is that black people: 1) have far less opportunity to discriminate against whites than whites have to discriminate against blacks, overall; and 2) black people lack a system of institutionalized support that protect them when they discriminate against whites.

It took black and white people working together for one hundred years to get programs like Affirmative Action installed in the U.S., but it took one white man (Alan Bakke) only a single Supreme Court case to get those programs dismantled because he felt he didn’t gain entry into medical school based on his white race.

“Reverse Racism” would only describe a society in which all the rules and roles were turned upside down. That has not happened in the U.S., however much white right wing ideologues want to complain that they’re being victimized by the few points of equality that minorities and women have managed to claim. White people who complain about “Reverse Racism” are actually complaining about being denied their privileges, rather than being denied their rights. They feel entitled to be hired and not to be discriminated against, even though the norm is white people discriminating against blacks. If, in a rare instance, a black employer discriminates against a white job applicant, that’s not “reverse” anything — it’s simple discrimination. It’s to be condemned on principle, but it’s not evidence of some systematic program by which whites are being deprived of their rights.

The right wing popularized the term “Reverse Racism” because they were really angry at having their white privileges challenged. Anyone who uses that phrase, whether they are right wing or not, furthers the right wing’s cause. This is what I tell Democrats and progressives who I hear using the term — not only are they being inaccurate, but they’re helping out their opponents.

The above arguments can be applied to any institutionalized structure of oppression, affecting any race, ethnic or religious group, and can be used to to oppose claims of “Reverse Sexism” too.

I hope that clarifies things a bit.

[TW for Racial Slur]

smashitdead:

The Leadership Blog: “No Niggers Please” Sparks a Revolution at MSU

strugglingtobeheard:

theleadershipblog:

Hello!

I am blogging you to inform you, if you have not been informed already, about the several racial incidents that have occurred on campus during this past week.

1) On Wednesday of last week,  The phrase “No Niggers Please! :)” was written on the outside of a black girl’s dorm room door erase board. The girl, who was extremely in shock, was moved across campus within a hour by the Hall director.

2) A few days later, a black doll was found in the Bio-medical Science Building hung by a homemade noose, made out of green Mardi Gras beads.

Several other racial slurs and terms have been vandalized on walls in several residence halls during this week and according to students the faculty in the buildings wash the slurs away and refuse to do anything about it.

A week after the first incident, today, the President of Michigan State University sent a campus wide email generally informing all students about the racial incidents that have been occurring. She then proceeds to say that she supports the first amendment right even though it may offend most people. The email showcased no compassion or remorse towards any of the students that were attacked.

Tonight, the Black Student Alliance, held an Emergency Town Hall meeting entitled “Stop Racism”. Hundreds of students of all different races, though mainly black, came together to discuss the incidents that were going on campus, share testimonies and experiences with racism on campus, and lift their voices to hopefully spark a revolution; and yes a spark was created.

The energy within the meeting was historic. I just want to share one quote with you by the opening speaker:

“If action is not taken then we will shake this campus to its core with our voices.”

All Multi-Racial groups on campus are saying “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” and I’m happy to say that a Revolution is approaching.

Wow, what a shitty president. And why did that girl have to move but no investigation as to who did it took place? What an unsturdy learning situation. My heart goes out to ya’ll for having to deal with that!! If you need support in the form of letters saying this is an outrage or anything along those lines, let the word by known!! Shake that campus if you have to.

Hate speech isn’t free speech. I bet the same university president wouldn’t be so quick to encourage first amendment free speech against them.
