"After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities. And I dare not linger, for my long walk has just begun."

Animal Farm - Banned/Challenged
Animal Farm was banned in the USSR until perestroika form being anti-Communist. It was also banned in the USA for Communist material in its introduction, even though the book is a satire on Stalinism. In 1963 the John Birch Society in Wisconsin challenged the use of the phrase ‘masses will revolt’. - excerpt from Granta Diary 2008, The Books They Tried to Ban
Trufax - Animal Farm is one of the first books I read. My folks have always been working class, and Union-supporting Labour Party members. As well as three copies of The Lord Of The Rings, we had Animal Farm and 1984, among other books. Even before I was aware of the message Animal Farm held, or the true events it was based on, I loved it. In High School, I used to carry my copy in my school bag, and read it every day for about a year - considering it takes me about two days to read it, that’s something big.
I’ve always felt a great affection of Boxer, the Stakhanovite horse.
