is the norm, not the abberation. The sudden tragic loss of life is always utterly shocking to the victims and their community, but white violence itself is the furthest thing from shocking. Almost all peoples around the world have tasted its bitter blood. It has been ongoing for five centuries, in massacres on all continents and all islands in all oceans. It manifests both as xenophobic racism where whites are the majority and genocidal colonialism where people of color are the majority. That’s practically what whiteness means: xenophobia at home, colonialism abroad. It’s what has largely shaped the modern world, yet people look around and wonder, How did we get here?
As a feminist, I canot simultaneously believe that “the personal is political” and that a white American terrorist murderer has “no political motive”. Everything we are and do is informed by our politics, while would mass murder be any different? the disdain for human life necessary to execute the crime IS political. The insistance that a white man acted in a vacuum causes me severe cognitive dissonance. How can he be devoid of politics when he is the by product of a system that upholds heteronormative, patriarchal, white supremacist values? That those values have become so ingrained and pervasive doesn’t mean that the killer has “no political motive”, it just means that those politics are so normalized to the point of being invisible.
It has already begun.
They’re already spinning it to make sure that the cops’ murder of an UNARMED, HANDCUFFED young man looks like it’s his fault.
Unlike the beautiful 6-year old Jonbenett Ramsey who received coverage all over the media - every tabloid, newspaper, news channel, talk show, 7-year old Aiyana Stanley was killed by a police officer during a raid while she was sleep and her murder received very little coverage at all.
Police, searching for a murder suspect, threw a flash grenade through the window of her family’s apartment around midnight. According to Aiyana’s father, it landed on the couch, setting Aiyana on fire. A police officer’s gun then went off, and shot Aiyana in the neck.
Aiyana was asleep on the living room sofa in her family’s apartment when Detroit police, searching for a homicide suspect, burst in and an officer’s gun went off, fatally striking the girl in the neck, family members said.
Her father, 25-year-old Charles Jones, told The Detroit News he had just gone to bed early Sunday after covering his daughter with her favorite blanket when he heard a flash grenade followed by a gunshot. When he rushed into the living room, he said, police forced him to lie on the ground, with his face in his daughter’s blood.
“I’ll never be the same. That’s my only daughter,” Jones told.
We haven’t forgotten about you baby. R.I.P.
Is this some type of fucking horrible nightmare that I can’t wake up out of?
OH MY GOD. FUCK THE POLICE.
nancy grace and the missing white girl hour will never tell you about aiyana or brisenia flores

Why are people on tumblr legitimately defending George Zimmerman’s actions?
Why are people on tumblr seriously discussing George Zimmerman’s “act of self defence”?
Well kids unless Zimmerman has a phobia of trans fats & corn syrup that has not yet been disclosed to the media, please for the love of everything sacred, tell me exactly what imminent threat a scrawny 17 year old boy armed with skittles and iced tea posed to a burly 26 year old man with a history of violence.
Sometimes people make me hate being here.
