super-skrull:

Released Today!
Today? March 1.
Released? Tank Girl.
When? 1995.
Starring? Lori Petty, Ice-T, Naomi Watts and Malcolm McDowell.
What’s It About? Based on the British cult comic-strip, our tank-riding anti-heroine fights a mega-corporation, which controls the world’s water supply. Man, these IMDB synopsizes can be so random.
How Old Was I? 21
Did I See It Then? Yes, a whole bunch of us were super geeked to see it.
Have I Seen It Since? Alas, yes.

I look back at Tank Girl and all I can say is “What was I thinking?” It’s a LORI PETTY movie! Look, I’m not saying Lori Petty movies can’t be good or at least entertaining, since she was in A League of Their Own and Point Break, but no one with a voice that annoying should be starring in their own movie. Seriously, Lori Petty should thank the Lord every day for Rosie Perez or she would have the most grating voice in Hollywood. Also, Joey Lauren Adams should be glad Lori Petty is around to be the runner up for annoying voice, in case Rosie Perez dies unexpectedly.

It’s been so long since I saw this movie that I remember it more for the effect it had on my friends. For some reason we all loved it. I’m sure it’s a deeply flawed, truly horrible movie, but 21 year old me and my friends thought it was awesome. Then again, 21 year old me also saw Johnny Mnemonic, Congo, The Net, Batman Forever, Mortal Kombat, the Prophesy, Strange Days and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie in 1995 and enjoyed them all!

So really, it’s pretty clear you can’t trust 21 year old me when it comes to movies.

Still…TANK GIRL? COME ON, 21 YEAR OLD ME!
