A warning to the women of Toronto:
I rarely browse Reddit, because of the large amounts of circle jerking and men’s rights activists, but once in a while I’ll check out the Toronto subreddit and today, this post caught my eye:
So there was a post on /r/creepshaming that alerted me to this guy: http://www.reddit.com/user/CreeperComforts/submitted/ He’s been taking creep pictures of women in Toronto. Here are his “tips”:
I use full sized cameras. Better image quality and most people pay you no attention when you have one. Don’t be afraid to take a picture. If you look like you know what you are doing, most people will ignore you. DSLR. By far my favorite camera for creepshots. Why? Because you DO NOT HIDE IT. You can’t really, it’s too big.
See, a SLR is large and typically hangs around your neck. Due to natural walking gate, it will swing wildly unless you hold onto it. The natural way to do this is to rest your right hand on it with your thumb on the trigger.
Most SLR cameras are also exceptionally efficient in that they only use power when you partially press the trigger. So, they can sit there with the power on for DAYS and still be good to go when you call upon them The way my SLR hangs on me leaves it at the perfect “aim at the hiney height”. I just need walk near a sexy booty, press the trigger and bam, I have a 5 shot per second burst of insanely high quality shots of said booty.
Upside? No one thinks you’ll be taking sneaky shots with such a large camera, in fact, you can be blunt and just hold it up to use the view finder. People ignore you when you use a camera like that. Proof? Try taking a picture on a busy sidewalk and count how many people walk right in front of you. Also, in the dark, you can use the flash and no one even cares.
Down side: Shutter noise on my current system. Newer cameras give the option to turn this noise off for truly silent photography. So, in the mean time, sneaky shots need to be taken around places with lots of masking background noise. Streets, festivals, etc. Malls kind of work, if the lighting is right.
He’s the mod at /r/creepshots… Of all people, a Torontonian is the top mod. This disgusts me so much. Please, be careful, and to the men of Toronto, warn your friends!
According to his comments, he’s 6’4” and has had “25+ years of experience watching porn”. This is how he gets most of his shots:
“My main “sneaky” cam is my Canon. It’s a point and shoot (P&S) camera that can be palmed easily. I like Canon because they boot up REALLY quick and you can control everything, including the sound settings so that it doesn’t make a peep when being turned on or taking a picture. I keep it in “programmable” mode so that the flash doesn’t pop on like it does in AUTO mode. Downside? There is no viewfinder, that’s what the very bright LCD screen is used for. And you have no option to turn it off, so, you need to keep it held against your leg or jacket for true creepshots.
I typically Keep it in my pocket and when I see a target, take it out, and hold it on it’s side in my right hand (think portrait mode). I use my thumb to hit the power button, and the lens extends between my index and middle finger. I use my thumb to snap a few shots, then power off and back into my pocket. The entire event is less than 5 seconds in most cases.”
If you guys are unaware, /r/creepshots is a subreddit devoted to photos taken of unsuspecting women (normally of their backside)without their consent. It’s fucking disgusting and deplorable. And apparently it’s all perfectly legal. The photos appear to be taken in the Queen and University area.
I just want to send out a warning to all women of Toronto, especially those around downtown. Be aware and vigilant and don’t be afraid to call a pig out on his shit. I know we have a good amount of followers, so if you wouldn’t mind signal-boosting this it would be much appreciated.

New Gallup poll reports Obama 47% and Romney 47% among REGISTERED VOTERS.
So in polls among the people Obama has a massive lead, but among the people who are actually going to vote it is neck and neck. This is feeling more and more like the 2004 election every day. The news made it seem like there was no possible way that George Bush could win and yet he did. Not a single person I knew even considered that he might win. Now the republicans are coming out full force to suppress the vote.
If you’re young and this is only your first or second election don’t feel comfortable that Romney is going to lose. Go register to vote and show up on election day. You’ve only got about 2 weeks left to do it my state and possibly yours. Do it now. It is very possible that Romney will still win the election. George Bush was just as big a moron (very possibly worse) too. Arguments or how you look in the news don’t matter on election day. Turnout is the only thing that matters at this point.
People who felt comfortable that everyone else would go vote in 2004 are actually the ones most responsible for the financial collapse. Don’t be responsible for putting this rich guy who doesn’t care about any of us in charge of us. It’s not an abstract idea. He’s pretty fucking close to actually getting the job.

Petition to ban yaoi/yuri paddles at mcm

for the last year or so I have been meaning to create this petition, but due to something that happened at this mays expo I have finally decided to do it.
for those of you that don’t know, yaoi or yuri paddles look like this
they are a short paddle with yaoi/yuri/uke/seme/whatever written on both sides and are used to hit people with.
If anyone has actually been hit with one of these you will know they are not to be taken lightly and can seriously hurt.
In most American conventions these paddles have been banned, for quite obvious health and safety reasons, but at mcm they have not, in fact they have not even been mentioned in the weapons rules even though they should really be classed under hard wood weapon due to the fact in essence, they are a plank of wood.
At this mcm they were being sold by “the yaoi guy” almost directly where you enter the dealers hall, many of you, myself included have complaints about the stallholder anyway, including his obnoxious manner of which he shoves his produce upon you.
While at a meet on the sunday of the convention I and several others were threatened with said paddles, at one point my friend stepped in and actually stopped one person from hitting me.
this is not an 18+ convention, many of the people in my group are 13, 14, 15 and generally UNDER 18, hitting someone without their permission is assault anyway and the selling of these paddles is making that out to be acceptable, which of course it isnt.
I will be writing a letter to the convention staff and attaching this petition onto it, in hopes that they will either ban the paddles at cons entirely, ban the sale of them at cons or at the very least put them under hard wood weapons rules and enforce those rulings.

Considering the amount of complaints the yaoi guy has received, I’m surprised he’s not banned from MCM completely. I guess he pays a lot of money for his stall, considering how they placed it right at the front of the dealers hall…
A friend of mine runs Yaoi Kingdom and has had his stall set up at LFCC and MCM, he’s a really friendly and approachable guy and doesn’t shove hardcore porn under minors’ noses.
When I posted this link on my university’s anime society page, I got a lot of “It hasn’t happened to me so it’s not an issue” or “If they ban these then they should ban swords LOL!” or “if someone does that, tell security”
MCM is not best known for obeying their own rules. They sell swords that they have banned, security don’t give a shit what goes on, and they’ve allowed sellers to sell stolen artworks. Ignoring a matter will not get it fixed. Doing something about it will.

If a Married Lesbian Couple Saves 40 Teens from the Norway Massacre and No One Writes About it, Did it Really Happen?
By this point, most of you have heard about the tragedy in Norway a few weeks ago when a Christian Fundamentalist murdered 92 people and injured another 96. The story has been well-covered by International media and the mainstream press here in the US.
What you probably have not heard about is the married lesbian couple who rescued 40 teenagers during and after the bloody event. Several blogs and gay and lesbian publications are now picking up the story, but the heavy hitters who usually kill for hero stories like this, have remained silent.
The Finnish capital city’s largest daily newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat, published this account (translated from Finnish):
Hege Dalen and her spouse, Toril Hansen were near Utöyan having dinner on the opposite shore across from the ill-fated campsite, when they began to hear gunfire and screaming on the island.
“We were eating. Then shooting and then the awful screaming. We saw how the young people ran in panic into the lake,” says Dale to HS in an interview.
The couple immediately took action and pushed the boat into Lake Tyrifjorden.
Dalen and Hansen drove the boat to the island, picked up from the water victims in shock in, the young and wounded, and transported them to the opposite shore to the mainland. Between runs they saw that the bullets had hit the right side of the boat.
Since there were so many and not all fit at once aboard, they returned to the island four times.
They were able to rescue 40 young people from the clutches of the killer.
“We did not sleep last night at all. Today, we have been together and talked about the events,” Dalen said.
