This is the best gif set ever.

And then theres that one ^

What the fuck is wrong with twerkin? I’m not here for your cracka ass gifset of dances those honkies are doin. Most of that shit is 1. Bland as fuck 2. Stolen from black and brown folks and watered down so they stupid asses can do it.

You mad cuz y’all no ass having muthafuckas know no matter how hard you try, twerkin is something you will never fully master.

Sit the fuck down with this antiblack bullshit.

I swear to GOD white people gonna make me lose my mind!!!!!!!!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHH they tried to shit on twerking but look at those boring-ass-fuck dance moves in the gifset. I’d rather twerking to that watered down boring bullshit any day.

I can tell you from the top of my head that the 1921-28 GIF are dances stolen from the Senegalese slaves brought to Charleston, SC, who did a dance called “Sunu” with the exact same moves.

White people then took it, watered it down to something they can do (the actual dance moves are way more animated and energetic), and decided to popularize it.

1930-47 are dances stolen from West Africa once again.

1957-67 stolen from Black dance clubs of that era.

1992-98 at this point white people were just stealing from Black folks openly.

2006-2012 white people have completely appropriated Black culture in order to keep themselves entertained…and still look silly doing it.

…which is why when white people come to my mother’s dance workshops they can never keep up.

That’s fine. I don’t like y’all getting in my way anyway.

Welp.

And 20 years from now there will be a gifset of some assless white girls “twerking”.

yep…….

everything but the first one is stolen black dance…thanks for chronicling your theft

Everything I wanted to say but couldn’t find the words for.

Alright, I’m going to start by saying that I find some of the comments above highly disturbing. It’s unsettling to me that people are making a big deal about the dancers being white. Unsettling enough that I have to get on my soapbox.

Just because something is derived from a certain culture, does not mean that people not from said culture are not allowed to take part in it. I’m a young, Caucasian female, and I’ve been a swing dancer and a Lindy Hopper for going on three years. Am I not allowed to dance Lindy Hop because it’s a dance that was created by African Americans in Harlem, or am I just not allowed to post a gifset of my white partner and I?

What I find upsetting is the double standard on issues like this. I’ve heard quite a few racist comments throughout my life, and they all sicken me, no matter which race is being targeted.  If these dancers or the creator of this gifset are being verbally attacked for white people doing moves that black people created where does it stop? If that’s the rule then I’m not allowed to post a video of me doing the Shim Sham, because Frankie Manning, the creator, was African American, no one but white people can post pictures taken of them reading Harry Potter because it was written by a Caucasian (by this rule, that goes for Asians and people from the Middle East too). If an African American is singing a Beatles song, are they stealing the Caucasian culture? No, they’re taking part in something they enjoy. Race has nothing to do with entertainment.

I know that some people are going to say “Oh, you’re just a whiny white girl, you don’t know shit.” And that’s precisely my point. I have no tolerance for any sort of racist comments, and that’s what I see these comments complaining that the dancers are white as. The term that is used for this sort of racism is called “Reverse Racism” but I’ve always hated that term. There’s no such thing as “reverse racism” Racism is racism.

reverseracism:

So last night something comes up on my dashboard with an anti-sjer basically saying that if they want to bother people and go in their ask box they have the freedom to do so while at the same time complaining about so called sjw being cyber-bullies, unproductive, and immature. I don’t understand this logic. I just don’t.

AE said to just start calling anti-sj “pro-injustice” And yeah, I don’t get it either.

I just might start doing that

The angry black SJWs on here want all of us whites to accept we are guilty of racism and apologize for being white…

reverseracism:

whatwhiteswillneverknow:

dumblrfeminist:

How about they apologize for being black?

Not that I actually agree with that cause no one should apologize for their race. But some how what I just said was exceedingly racist but for some reason what they are asking isn’t. Why?

Because white people owned slaves a long time ago. That’s usually what their arguments amount to.

Lemme break it down. My grandparents were immigrants from Germany back in the 40’s. There is no way they possibly owned a slave, no way anyone in my family history owned a slave.

Lots of people fall under this category alright? Even if they don’t, no one who is alive now owned a slave and no one who was a slave is around now either.

The holocaust happened in far closer recent history and you don’t hear the Jews citing that ALL the time for why they feel oppressed and yes Jews are a hated on minority in this country but since most of them are white here, I guess you’d say that doesn’t count.

You need to realize that no one is saying there isn’t such a thing as racism. No one is arguing there isn’t oppression. No one will tell you on this blog that these things aren’t a problem and don’t exist.

However, they shout on and on about how you can’t be racist, that only white people can, and the mere fact that they exist makes them racists is extremely ignorant and why we feel the need for rebuttal.

You spout on and on about how YOU ARE ALLOWED TO SPEAK YOUR MIND and we will allow you too but the moment we do you tell us to SHUT UP and we can have NO PART OF THE CONVERSATION.

Well the first step to fixing a problem is creating an open dialogue in a mature, public forum. If you don’t allow both sides to speak on the issue you will never get equality. So if you disagree that White people can have opinions on this, you ultimately don’t want equality and what you are looking for is either genocide of white people or a world where we are all subservient to you.

I won’t let either happen, no matter what it comes down to. Stop pretending you want something you actually don’t. Stop acting like children, looking for reasons to be offended, putting words in people’s mouths, and making people feel guilty for things they can’t help.

So as ridiculous as it would be for a white person to ask a black person to feel guilty about the color of their skin, the opposite is just as ridiculous and racist as well.

Anyone wanna take a crack at this?

It’s Christmas Eve and we’re too tired.

Actually… we’ll take a crack at some things…

We’re not looking for genocide of White people. We’re looking for White people to be aware of their own ignorance of present day laws that help keep the current order of things the way it is.

You can have a part of the conversation as long as you know two things:

1) When to actually shut up and listen.

2) When to REALLY listen.

Listening is something that most people of your caliber fails to comprehend. We can speak about a simple point, but then you turn into one of the few things:

  • Victim-Blaming
  • Using Historical Figures Quotes without consideration of the context
  • Saying “Slavery is over, get over it” (That’s like saying “get over rape!”)
  • Use present day celebrities/personalities as examples of “oppression is not real”

Your family is from a foreign land. What the fuck you want, a cookie?

Yes, we said what the fuck you want, a cookie - simply because we have foreign land parents too!

Your skin = benefits. You will get benefits. Illegal United Kingdom people will get more benefits than legally colored US Citizens.

So, you want to be part of a solution? Try LISTENING and STOP JUMPING CONCLUSIONS because we’re tried of talking and educating.

The more and more I’m thinking about it and seeing their posts in these tags, the more I believe this is the one that jumped in on that post about the blogger who got attacked with eggs and was called a racial slur, and then made it about herself. But it’s just a guess.

In any case, I like how they say that we must create an open dialogue because as pointed out earlier today, dumblrfeminist doesn’t want an open-dialogue.

People, get it through you’re heads PLEASE

social justice is not a bad thing, full fucking stop.

gadaboutgreen:

redefiningbodyimage:

alphaunni:

i’m getting really fucking tired of ‘social justice bloggers’ being blamed for ruining people’s fun

when your fun stems from oppressive, dehumanising ideologies and upholds the practice of further marginalising people, there’s a bigger issue at hand than hurt feelings that people don’t like your favorites

like, i don’t know why you would want to defend a system of oppression and privilege and the works over the people who suffer under that system, who are actively and passively oppressed and even killed by the system, who get the brunt of the microaggressions and have to live their daily lives enduring those microaggressions that exist outside of tumblr

fandom, you are gross as shit for doing this

privileged folk, you are gross as shit for doing this

calling someone out for their bullshit is not bullying, it’s not even to say your a bad person; it’s a signal for you to acknowledge the internalised isms you have as being a product of a society that institutionalises isms

these social justice bloggers - whether or not they identify as such (while we’re at it, stop shoving these labels onto people, stop shoving words into people’s mouths, stop misconstruing people’s actions when they call you out on your fuck ups) - are not seeking out these offensive things and getting angry just for the sake of it. these offensive things have riled up visceral indignation as a result of wanting to find peace and fun in safe places but instead get slapped in the face by unsafe, offensive things that you may think are innocuous but aren’t because your privileges afford you that ignorance to not see those things as anything but innocuous/non-offensive. so instead of saying ‘i’m sorry you got offended’ or ‘you’re too sensitive’ or ‘i’m sick of social justice bloggers getting offended by literally everything,’ how about you try to understand WHY someone got offended, WHY they were hurt by your actions, WHY a particular thing is drenched with microaggressions and isms

but you’d rather get angry that someone pointed out your fuck up, i see

you’d rather play the victim in this case…thanks for derailing and making it about you

unlearning bigotry is a difficult task to uptake, but wouldn’t you rather unlearn isms and oppressions than participate in fun that feeds into the systems that ostracise, endanger, erase, and marginalise folks who are not white, cis, wealthy, and men?

if you’re one of those folks that like to throw around social justice like it’s a pejorative rather than a form of social activism to fight and challenge against social injustices of varying types, regardless if it deals with media and media representation and the way media remains inflexible in their oppressive practices that are normalised by society and therefore by extension you normalise those practices

then it says a whole lot about your character and how little you empathise people and in actuality you’re not a nice person, you’re in fact pathetic excuses of human decency

I have never labeled myself a “social justice blogger”, but I was labeled as such by a someone the other day.

I find it an odd thing to be labeled because of the stigma that surrounds being a “Tumblr social justice blogger” (as outlined above) but whatthefuckever. I do what I do, I challenge and criticize and I get fucking angry, because this shit is important.

It’s not just about redefining body image anymore and it never really was. Fat acceptance and body image related politics don’t stop short of size and shape, they transcend all kinds of social issues. It’s about redefining feminism, oppression, intersectionality, gender, language, culture…The list goes on and on.

These are things that fill my brainwaves every single day. I am enthralled by the amount I’ve learned, taken in, and passed on - just in the past year, I have grown more as a feminist and activist than I could have ever thought possible. The amount of research, note-taking and reading I do on a daily basis is actually pretty fucking astounding, now that I think about it. I can’t stop myself, I’m addicted to this knowledge. My passion is palpable and there is no use in minimizing it.

The bolded.

i despise the term “social justice.”

bemusedlybespectacled:

mamamantis:

here’s why.

it makes the issue sound abstract.

it makes it sound like talking about oppression and inequality is a hobby. like something we do in our spare time for kicks but forget about completely when we’re not blogging.

there is nothing fucking abstract about these topics.

when i talk about the oppression of women, of the queer community, of PoC - that’s not me blowing hot air about academic topics that i view objectively. i am talking about shit that directly affects me every fucking day irl. i am talking about the inescapable truths that i face every day and they are sucky and dangerous and upsetting and scary and VERY, VERY REAL.

what you guys refer to as “social justice” with a smirk and a scoff are issues that shape and affect my fucking life. “social justice” does not stop when i get off tumblr for the night and go out with my friends or go to class or go to see a movie or watch tv. this isn’t about fucking blogging. it’s about discussing and fighting against a real, concrete system that is specifically engineered to make the world scary and dangerous for me and people like me.

there is absolutely nothing abstract about that.

THANK THE FUCKING LORD SOMEONE ACTUALLY SAID THIS.

"

Ms. Douglas recounted her experiences with bullying and racism at the Excalibur Gym in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to Oprah Winfrey. She said, “One of my teammates was like, ‘Can you scrape the bar?’ And they were like, ‘Why doesn’t Gabby do it, she’s our slave?’ I definitely felt isolated, I felt ‘Why am I deserving this? Is it because I’m black?’ I was scared at my old gym to show my potential.… I was just holding back.” She also shared that it was an atmosphere where, “I was just, you know, kind of getting racist jokes, kind of being isolated from the group. So it was definitely hard. I would come home at night and just cry my eyes out.”

Douglas should be praised for speaking out about what she faced. But instead it’s earning an outrageous response.

Randy Stageburg, a world-class gymnast who trained at Excalibur, said, “The accusations that are being made against the gymnasts and coaches are just sickening…. Gabby was never a victim. In fact, many would say she was one of the favorites…. funny how it is just now coming up.”

What gives Stageburg the paranormal ability to account for discussions he didn’t witness, he does not disclose.

Excalibur Gymnastics CEO Gustavo Maure also accused Douglas of being “a liar.” “Is Gabrielle a credible person just because she is an Olympic champion? She is not giving any names or dates, leading us to believe that the accusation is fake.”

Another gymnast, Kristina Coccia, defended Excalibur by saying there was no racism at the gym and then followed up with this whammy: “What Gabby is saying makes me sick. She should stop playing the victim and pay back the money she owes.” (There is no mention of what money Ms. Coccia is referring to or why that would be any of her concern.)

The response by Excalibur Gyms frankly speaks for itself. It also doesn’t pass any kind of a smell test. Generations of black athletes have learned that speaking out about racism is the fastest route to commercial obsolescence. You don’t see Curt Flood on the Wheaties Box.

As Gabrielle Douglas aims to become a massive crossover commercial star, there is no compelling reason for her to speak about these experiences unless they’re true and she hopes to make it easier for the next “outsider” who comes to the gym. As for Excalibur Gym, it’s in Virginia Beach, Virginia, one of the most segregated, cloistered parts of the state. The possibility that there could be people with racist ideas in Virginia Beach is like saying Seattle has the possibility of rain.

The people at Excalibur could have and should have said, “We’re aware that racism is a problem in our world and in our state. We aim to provide as nurturing an environment as possible and will continue to work to be better.” Instead, Gabrielle Douglas is “a liar” “playing the victim” and makes people “sick.” To put it mildly, the people defending Excalibur aren’t doing themselves any favors. In fact, they seem intent on proving Ms. Douglas’s point: that Excalibur Gymnasium has more than its share of bullies.

i love how these “anti SJ” blogs will respond with vitrol to the posts that we make

but not the racism that caused it

they don’t care about the awful shit we experience

just as long as we’re not mean to privileged people while we’re responding to it

This is what I’m saying though. People don’t want to realize how self-serving they sound when they come into the conversation screaming about how not racist they are. It’s almost ALWAYS about them not wanting to look like racist idiots. When they’re exposed, THEY get upset, blame “SJ” blogs, call tumblr “toxic”, and cry about how terrible people are for not understanding how we hurt THEIR feelings.

Now how did the entire conversation do a 180 to focus on how we hurt YOUR feelings?

These are the people that everyone wants us to be nice to when they aren’t even giving us the decency to be sympathetic and hear us out. Then when you get angry at these people, YOU turn out to be the bad guy. It’s really disconcerting.

If people would lend me an ear and be quiet for 2 seconds instead of being so quick to feel attacked and attack me, then I probably wouldn’t be “attacking” them back.

The Bigot List

racismschool:

The Proud- This bigot is most likely to call their hate an opinion and talk about how everyone is entitled to their own. They will continue by speaking of their misguided understanding of Freedom of Speech. The important thing to remember when dealing with “The Proud” bigot is that it is only their opinion and their Freedom of Speech that they believe should be protected. Those that oppose them are somehow anti-freedom. Those that oppose them are not using Freedom of Speech but are in fact trying to squelch it.

The Enlightened- This bigot calls for peace. The problem is, their call for peace is only directed at the victim of hate. Rarely, if ever, is this “Call for peace” directed at the person who has caused the pain. They are anti-retaliation but not so much anti-attack. This bigot will talk of Ghandi or quote “An eye for an eye…” They’ll say, “Whatever the hate fueled person did was bad BUT…” All the while stepping directly on the hurt person and remaining completely silent in the face of the person who has caused the harm. They will often go on a faux peace rant, end it with an incorrect use of Nameste and be completely shocked that everyone doesn’t immediately fall at their feet and start singing We are the World

The Troll- The troll is more common to internet life. Most people have either encountered a troll or have at least seen others dealing with one. Trolls are the most temperamental of all the bigots. They are “Trolls” in the first place because they like control. The only problem with The Troll is that they only like having control, not being controlled. In most cases, the thing that makes a troll sit in a ball and cry is doing nothing. These are weak willed people. They are incapable of human discourse so they’ve found a way of convincing themselves that what they are doing is for “Entertainment” purposes and if you get upset, it’s because YOU don’t have a strong constitution. Those that have shut a troll down, know that The Troll is by far the most likely to cry and pander for others to attack than any other bigot.

The Teacher- This bigot is perhaps the most dangerous to the weak minded. The Teacher is a person who spews “Facts” but each and every fact will actually be something they heard or something they’ve conjured up in their own mind. You see an influx of this sort of thing around time when people are trying to get money for college. They’ll talk of who get’s scholarships and be 100% factually incorrect. Often, they’ll even make up percentages that never seem to be linked or backed up in any way. These people are dangerous to those that don’t do their own research, those that don’t ask questions and those that believe anything they are told. Unfortunately, those that are most likely to be susceptible to “The Teacher” are also those most likely to become “The Teacher.”

The Almost- The Almost is likely your favorite if you have studied in whatever field they claim to be an expert in! “The Almost” is the person who gives information that was at one time considered factually correct. One ongoing example is: The Science Expert! You’ll see “The Almost” talk about how one race is inferior to another based on skull shape. The problem is, this theory has been disproved several times, over several years by several different well known scientist. However, it was considered true AT ONE TIME, so this person will use something that was ONCE considered true, ignore all current data that disproves the theory and justify their reasoning for their bigoted views.

The Comedian- This is the “It was just a joke” bigot. No matter what they said, what they did or who they hurt, in their feeble minds, it should all be allowed, encouraged and completely acceptable as long as they say “It was a joke.” The Comedian is second only to The Troll in over sensitivity. As a matter of fact, one of the favorite tools of The Comedian is to say that they were “Just trolling” when then have reached a point when they no longer can think of anything better to say to justify their ignorance. It’s often a last ditch effort. They will say, do and be horrible in every way but when called on their ignorance will cry and say that EVERYONE ELSE is overreacting. This person will also often use the line “Stop being offended by everything” or “Everyone is offended by something. People need to calm down.” All the while, crying about how mean everyone is to them.

The Magician- This bigot is the emotional terrorist of the group. Though all forms of the bigot will attack you on an emotional level, “The Magician” makes it an art form. The magician spews hate, then once this bigot is either called on their crap or proven factually incorrect, they claim that they have a mental illness. Yes, it magically appears! This illness can rarely, if ever, be truly proven. This is used as a quick turn-of-events playing card. The Magician will attack at will. Then, when they see that they are losing the battle, they invoke an illness that you previously knew nothing about. Next, this illness becomes the reason that YOU, not them, but YOU are wrong for “Attacking” them. It’s clever but certainly a vile move. Only those who live in the depths of sub-humanism are capable of this sort of action.
