Annoying Things White People Do in Racial Arguments.
They NEED to be validated at every twist and turn. They need you to let them know how open and accepting and good and not-racist they are. If every comment out of your mouth is not validating their existence as a Good Not-Racist Ally, they will derail until the cows come home and build a tent in your living room.
If we argued the way white people wanted, a racial essay would look much like this:
“I really hate white people, but only sometimes and only the really bad intentionally racist ones, which not all white people are. When I go into a store, the white security guards follow me around because I am black, but let’s not forget that not every white guard does this and that many white guards are amazing people who are great and completely not-racist at their jobs. Once, I joined a conversation with some white feminists, and when I brought up the issue of racism in feminism, they told me I was being a bad feminist for not supporting them. Those feminists were especially bad, there are many good feminists who support black feminists, so let’s take a few moments to sing a hymn to their praises. My brother got arrested and beaten for jaywalking, and the cops who did it got away with it, but remember that white cops are vital to our survival and they take care of us when we can’t or are too afraid to. I saw a white hipster wearing a Native headdress and an offensive logo on their shirt, and even though it was wrong, they probably didn’t mean it or know, and not all hipsters are insensitive like this. I was discussing my native language, which is Japanese, and someone kept asking me to say things in “Chinese”. I felt terrible because this happens a lot and is extremely dismissive of who I am. However, Japan and China are really far from America, and both languages aren’t very popular in this country, so I understand that the white person was probably confused and didn’t mean to continuously insult me, and of course, many white people know the difference and try to learn about my culture. Racism is perpetrated by white people, but a lot of white people hate that and try to fight with us even when they get it wrong. At least they’re trying.”
Perhaps seeing it written this plainly will help some people realize why this is problematic.
[Reblog because there’s a word-for-word repost floating around with no credit]
This is a resource post for all the Good White Person™s out there. You know, the ones who say things like “It’s not my fault I’m white! Don’t generalize white people!”, or “I’m appreciating your culture! You should be proud!”, or “Why do you hate all white people, look I’m a special snowflake who’s not racist give me an award for meeting the minimum requirements for being a decent human being”.
Well, if you are actually interested in understanding racism and how it ties into cultural appropriation, please read instead of endlessly badgering PoCs on tumblr with your cliched, unoriginal arguments and repeating the same questions over and over.

Okay. I agree. I’ve been socially conditioned not to notice racism and recognize my privilege. What can I do?
I don’t care about this bullshit; you’re making a big deal out of nothing, go home and delete your blog:
I love this op with all my heart.
One of the greatest gifts racists give to each other is the eraser. The eraser comes in a few different forms but the most common are the dismissal and the exclusion.
You’ve just pointed out the racist thing that was said and it get’s an immediate response of “Why is that racist?” or “You think everything is racist.” You see, if you answer that first question, the question of “Why” it allows the racist to derail the subject and make it about them. I am certain that if you’ve ever been in this situation you know how they love to make it about them. The other response or anything similar is a more basic dismissive statement. It’s that all encompassing umbrella of you are wrong and I am right without reason, logic or explanation.
The second and more terrifying, is the exclusion. The exclusion from history books. The exclusion from media. The exclusion from life.
This one, is far more evil. It can be done under the guise of “Helping the Negro.” Remember a few years ago when they wanted to take the word nigger out of Huckleberry Finn? That was for us…right? Wrong. That was to erase the nature of the story. To make the word itself disappear as though it was never harmful or hate fueled. If that word is erased from all it’s evil forms, racist will be allowed to say it. It will suddenly be okay. There will be no proof that it was ever used in a hurtful way. The worst part is that some of the arguments made were very convincing. There are some very smart evil people in this world. They will having black people fooled and fighting right along with them.
Slavery is the next and biggest step. The white washing of slavery (which I will be addressing in a later post) isn’t enough. They want it gone. Totally gone. They want it to be an allegation not a state of fact. Think I’m kidding? Currently, the Tennessee Tea Party is demanding the removal of slavery from textbooks. The reason? QUOTE-“Neglect and outright ill will have distorted the teaching of the history and character of the United States. We seek to compel the teaching of students in Tennessee the truth regarding the history of our nation and the nature of its government.”
My favorite part is “The truth regarding the history of our nation and the nature of its government.”
This is what an eraser looks like. Slavery wasn’t REALLY that bad, let’s take it out. If we take it out we can focus on the IMPORTANT stuff. Like, our founding fathers were kind people looking to make America a great Christian nation.
If they win, if it get’s taken out, they will keep wanting more. They will keep going until slavery is erased completely. Then, it will all be in our minds. Not everyone’s mind, black people’s minds. If we continue to make it small, make it less important or make it disappear completely, racists will get to say, your ancestors were lazy. It’s your fault the system is set up this way. It’s your fault I don’t like or respect you.
Don’t let yourself be erased.
It’s like those gif sets where it’s all 9/11 = Remember! The Shoah = NEVER FORGET! Slavery = It Wasn’t That Bad, Amerindigenous Genocide = Who?
There’s a ‘Never Forget’ because there are Holocaust Deniers. But somehow 500 years of enslavement and oppression deniers get a pass.
What if I told you that just because you don’t think of yourself as racist, you can still internalize racist attitudes, behaviours, and beliefs?
The question of whitewashing in our media is a brilliant one: it is in fact racist to use other people’s cultural practices, symbols, food, and clothing as if it were a backdrop to make your show ‘badass’, while never including any people actually of that culture.
Firefly does this.
It is not racist to ask, given how much of the show purports to be about Chinese people, where exactly the Chinese (or Chinese-American, or Asian-American) people are. So lemme get this straight, China beat everybody in the Space race and then disappeared and so… white people?
Well, that’s an interesting way to rearticulate American fears of the Chinese Other, erasure of that Other, and incorporation of ‘safe’, ‘nonthreatening’ elements of Otherness.
It’s also racist.
It’s part of systemic racism - as a system, racism depends on people to keep it going. Individual people don’t need to do much to keep it alive. They just need to buy into the idea that white = the default race, that Otherness is polluting and therefore in need of erasure or control, and that this is Just The Way It Is. They also need to buy into the notion that speaking out against these things - from the genocide through to the ‘little’ things like whitewashing in the media - is somehow wrong in itself, a betrayal from fellow white people, and complaining from the PoC being erased or whitewashed.
You don’t have to do much to participate or benefit from this system, and you don’t even have to think about it - in fact, I’m beginning to suspect, the less you think about it, the better it works, because you won’t see what’s going on in front of you, on your television, in your news, on your YouTube.
I used to defend shows like Firefly, and participated in the convoluted logic that if people didn’t like the Chinese elements in the show, they were racists. I believed my white friends who pushed this logic. It took a long time - and a lot of fights with those friends, actually, before I realized where the racism in such a sentiment is:
It’s predicated on the notion that Otherness is pollution. Let me be more direct:
It’s built on the idea that nonwhite people and even their culture are polluting.
That’s internalized racism hard at work, trying to cloak itself in the vestiges of Otherness.
I spoke to a Tumblr Support rep this morning and she agreed that my recent Once Upon A Time related subject was not malicious in nature, just a sensitive one people completely took the wrong way and pushed too far. That been said, the reblog tree will be cut down within 2 days. Sorry, haters and sheep. You were wrong. Once you truly understand that all people are equal… even you (not higher or lower), you too will rise above the “I won’t touch that” crap. My only issue was with politics getting involved in our entertainment. Changing classic stories suit support political correctness should be considered unethical. Also know that I have reported each and every single one of you for harassment. I warned you but you just had to keep pushing. I run 2 very public businesses so I can’t let things like this stand.
Enable your Tumblr Disquis in order to comment.
Just so we’re clear this is the guy that wrote this post. I really want Tumblr to explain to me how reblogging his bullshit & debunking it thoroughly = harassment.
Once again Tumblr’s official position is that debunking racist bullshit is harassment, but actual racist bullshit is not.
Reblogging so everyone gets the context and can see how fucked up tumblr support truly is.
unbelievable. An accurate recounting of history now apparently counts as harassment if an ignorant white man is the one being corrected. Of course.
you think you can make things go away on the Internet by complaining to Tumblr support
I love how being completely WRONG about the actual reality of history is now cause for complaint. You were racist and wrong. You were proved wrong. It’s not harassment to say you’re wrong. especially when you are wrong. Which you were. And are. good luck with getting that deleted from the internet…
Telling someone they are wrong because it is your opinion is not proof. Also, you might want to look up the proper use of a past-tense before replying to anything. You have just PROVEN yourself a jackass.
DJJARAK CALLED ME A JACKASS, QUICK, SOMEONE CALL TUMBLR SUPPORT, THIS IS HARASSMENT!!!111
Oh and here’s an article about the history of Black people in Europe and an art exhibit about Black people in Europe so, you know, it’s not my opinion, it’s a fact, you’re still wrong about Lancelot and there being PoC in Europe before, like, 100 years ago or whenever you think the continent of Africa figured out how to use boats. JFYI. But please, by all means, continue to explain why you’re right based on zero historical evidence since IT’S A MODERN ADAPTATION OF A FANTASY STORY.
Reblogging because this is important, and everyone needs to know the truth. As usual, Tumblr Staff shits on POC (People of Color) communities while protecting the interests of white people.
I may have caucasion skin, but I’m hardly “white”. Stop ASSuming.
djjarak continues to dig himself deeper…
you are a white-passing, white supremacy-upholding, whiteness FlavorAid drinking bag of dicks, djjarak.
just because you are a mixed-race, aspie, bisexual does not preclude you from bigoted thoughts and actions, and with each reply, you continue to parade your bigoted ass.
PSA: patterns are not the same as stereotypes
When people say all asians are good at karate, that’s a stereotype. It is based on some small fact— that karate is a Japanese martial art— but it’s grossly exaggerated into characterizing an entire group of people. It’s a caricature, like saying all asians have slanty eyes and confuse their R’s and L’S. Those things are based on actual facts, but they are blown way out of proportion and made to dehumanize people. That’s a stereotype.
When People of Color talk about being afraid of the police because they’re white, that’s not a stereotype. It’s a pattern. As in, you can legitimately prove that PoC (especially Black and Latin@ people) are vastly, statistically more likely to be murdered, beaten, or otherwise mistreated by cops. This is a proven fact by scientific study and lots of personal experience.
And even more so, believing in a pattern is a matter of survival— a white guy could make a racist joke any day and move on and not face any negative consequences. PoC have to watch how they speak and act around cops because they could actually get hurt and even die. It doesn’t matter that for every 100 cops, there’s 1 good cop. The pattern is there, it’s real, and if you don’t follow it bad shit could happen. It’s survival.
A stereotype is bullshit. A stereotype is a joke made at the expense of other people that eventually snowballs into real world consequences. A pattern is about surviving to see the next day, about a lifetime or repeated occurrences that clearly outline how a group of people is and can absolutely become a threat to you. A stereotype is one tiny thing you decided to harp on until it became an imagined threat, a difference that you could not reconcile with your small worldview. A pattern is about making sure that the people you love don’t get killed.
Patterns =/= stereotypes. It’s nice that you’re an exception to the pattern, but my characterizing all people like you as such is most certainly not a dehumanizing stereotype. Check yourself.
Sadly it’s a recurring theme in our four centuries of being Africans in America. We African-Americans make any minor, major or groundbreaking progress and it’s ‘too much ’ for whites and whiteness to handle.
After it occurs, you have the inevitable panicked rush of white supremacists to roll back that progress or work to create barriers to prevent further advancement for my people while stirring up resentment in the huddled masses of low and middle income white people. When we overcome that latest created barrier or painfully get back to the previous point we were at evolutionary wise in terms of our development as African-Americans, the rush by whiteness to create a new way to roll our progress back begins anew.
The fact you have people of color routinely doing things ‘they’ don’t think we should be doing such as running Fortune 500 corporations, winning Nobel Prizes, walking fashion runways, winning major golf or tennis tournaments, being the governor of a state or living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue along with the news that whites will be a minority population in the United States by 2040 has made whiteness uneasy.
The election of Barack Obama to the presidency in 2008 has sent the bigots into a frothing at the mouth frenzy and doubled down on pimping the dog whistle message of GOP=white leadership. When the GOP gained control of several state legislatures in the wake of the 2010 midterm elections one of the first things those Republican legislatures did was pass voter suppression laws designed to depress the turnout of African-American voters in the runup to this 2012 presidential election..
And the irrationality of the Massive Resistance 2.0 strategy the Republican party has deployed in order to deny him a second term speaks volumes to the level of racism in the GOP. They are willing to bankrupt and destroy this country just to oust one Black man and his family out of the house at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave my people built with their unpaid labor."

When I say I’m pro-life…
It doesn’t mean I’m religious.
Because I’m not.
It doesn’t mean I hate LGBT community.
Because I am a supporter.
It doesn’t mean I force women to give birth.
Because I never will.
Take what you want from my blog, but never assume I’m just your stereotypical pro-lifer. It is VERY possible to ask questions, state your opinions in a civil manner on this blog. I am respectful and I enjoy answering all questions received!
Thanks for following! :)
Let me tell you some things.
I used to investigate child abuse and neglect. I can tell you how to stop the vast majority of abortion in the world.
First, make knowledge and access to contraception widely available. Start teaching kids before they hit puberty. Teach them about domestic violence and coercion, and teach them not to coerce and rape. Create a strong, loving community where women and girls feel safe and supported in times of need. Because guess what? They aren’t. You know what happens to babies born under such circumstances? They get hurt, unnecessarily. They get sick, unnecessarily. They get removed from parents who love them but who are unprepared for the burden of a child. Resources? Honey, we try. There aren’t enough resources anywhere. There are waiting lists, and promises, and maybes. If the government itself can’t hook people up, what makes you think an impoverished single mom can handle it?
Abolish poverty. Do you have any idea how much childcare costs? Daycare can cost as much or more than monthly rent. They may be inadequately staffed. Getting a private nanny is a nice idea, but they don’t come cheap either. Relatives? Do they own a car? Does the bus run at the right times? Do they have jobs of their own they need to work just to keep the lights on? Are they going to stick around until you get off you convenience store shift at 4 AM? Do they have criminal histories that will make them unsuitable as caregivers when CPS pokes around? You gonna pay for that? Who’s going to pay for that?
End rape. I know your type errs on the side of blaming the woman, but I’ve seen little girls who’ve barely gotten their periods pregnant because somebody thought raping preteens was an awesome idea. You want to put a child through that? Or someone with a mental or physical inability for whom pregnancy would be frightening, painful or even life-threatening? I’ve seen nonverbal kids who had their feet sliced up by caregivers for no fucking reason at all, you think sexual abuse doesn’t happen either?
You say there’s lots of couples who want to adopt. Kiddo, what they want to adopt are healthy white babies, preferably untainted by the wombs and genetics of women with alcohol or drug dependencies. I’ve seen the kids they don’t want, who almost no one wants. You people focus only on the happy pink babies, the gigglers, the ones who grow and grow with no trouble. Those are not the kids who linger in foster care. Those are certainly not the older kids and teenagers who age out of foster care and then are thrown out in the streets, usually with an array of medical and mental health issues. Are they too old to count?
And yeah, I’ve seen the babies, little hand-sized things barely clinging to life. There’s no glory, no wonder there. There is no wonder in a pregnant woman with five dollars to her name, so deep in depression you wonder if she’ll be alive in a week. Therapy costs money. Medicine costs money. Food, clothes, electricity cost money. Government assistance is a pittance; poverty drives women and girls into situations where they are forced to rely on people who abuse them to survive. (I’ve been up in more hospitals than I can count.)
In each and every dark pit of desperation, I have never seen a pro-lifer. I ain’t never seen them babysitting, scrubbing floors, bringing over goods, handing mom $50 bucks a month or driving her to the pediatrician. I ain’t never seen them sitting up for hours with an autistic child who screams and rages so his mother can get some sleep while she rests up from working 14-hour days. I don’t see them fixing leaks in rundown houses or playing with a kid while the police prepare to interview her about her sexual abuse. They’re not paying for the funerals of babies and children who died after birth, when they truly do become independent organisms. And the crazy thing is they think they’ve already done their job, because the child was born!
Aphids give birth, girl. It’s no miracle. You want to speak for the weak? Get off your high horse and get your hands dirty helping the poor, the isolated, the ill and mentally ill women and mothers and their children who already breathe the dirty air. You are doing nothing, absolutely nothing, for children. You don’t have a flea’s comprehension of injustice. You are not doing shit for life until you get in there and fight that darkness. Until you understand that abortion is salvation in a world like ours. Does that sound too hard? Do you really think suffering post-birth is more permissible, less worthy of outrage?
“Pro-life” is simply a philosophy in which the only life worth saving is the one that can be saved by punishing a woman.
FLAWLESS COMMENTARY ABOVE. COMPLETELY AGREED. I’d love to see speakfortheweak reply to this, though we all know she won’t.
Can’t not reblog this. -Joe
I keep having discussions about Disney films and how racist many of the classics are, but the subject that I most fall upon is the 1953 version of Peter Pan, which holds an absurd breadth of racial stereotypes that there are musical numbers and plot sequences directly the product of such racial stereotypes of Native Americans. Certainly, the film’s portrayal undoubtedly permeated into the pretend games of children and their perception of how Native Americans behaved - I know this movie influenced me to wear feathers in my hair, pretend to do Indian tribal dances, and say “how” over and over.
The defense I hear most often from people is that films like Peter Pan “were not racist at the time they were made.”
What they really mean is that white people didn’t think it was racist at the time they were made. The film is just as racist then just as it is now. The fact that people can say movies like Peter Pan were “products of their time” negate that actual Native Americans have been vocal about their objections to the homogenization and stereotypical portrayal of their cultures and their race for literally centuries, but white people just didn’t listen to them. The constant apologism that something “wasn’t racist back then” implies that it is white society that deems what is racist, rather than the people of color directly affected and portrayed. Again, if it is racist now, it was racist then.
Also, children buy into these stereotypes, but children didn’t make this film; grown men did. It was a grown man who wrote the original Peter Pan story and its stereotypical portrayals of Natives. People talk about white creators back then as if they were little kids who didn’t know better. We shouldn’t give them an easy reprieve because a bunch of grown men “didn’t know better” to consider that Native Americans were people and not caricatures. If you like Peter Pan, you can like it, but we shouldn’t downplay its racism nor make excuses.
Whiteness Is a Fucking Trip
(The real hero in this scenario: Satwant Singh Kaleka, 62, was the president of the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, who was shot to death as he tried to tackle the gun-slinging killer.)
When James Holmes went up in that movie theater, shot almost 100 people, and killed 12, the mainstream media narrative was about how intelligent Holmes was and about his acceptance into some prestigious Ph.D. program. The media was looking for some way to excuse his behavior or at least present a justifiable reason for what he did in defense of Whiteness. “What set him off?” was the central question, as though there could be a legitimate, exculpatory reason for his terrorist acts or that, somehow, the victims might have been asking for it (if the victims fit a certain description, that is). The other major narrative that came out of the story were the Heroic Boyfriends of White Women, who jumped in front of bullets to save white womanhood. Another major narrative was about the victims who died, all of whom were white. A lesser narrative, and one the media tried their best to spin another way, was the white dude who jetted on his girlfriend and children, hopped in his vehicle, and fled the scene—leaving them to be saved by Jarell Brooks, a young African-American man.
In the case of the second massacre, Wade Michael Page went into a Sikh temple, likely unable to discern the difference between Sikhs and Muslims (after all, they all weer beards and turbans and that makes them all the same in the Whiteness imagination), a shot the place up. Seven people were killed before he was finally shot down himself. He was an avowed white supremacist (and the media uses the descriptor “white supremacist” as though tit only applies to a small number of backward people rather than the entire American ethos) who played in a white supremacist band, whose lyrics advocated the genocide of black people, gay people, and Jewish people (and there’s STILL no discussion about this racist, homophobic, Antisemitic music in the the media; if it was hip-hop though, the media wouldn’t be able to contain itself). He was tatted UP with White Supremacist symbols and, as of today, the media is still “trying to figure out the motive.” *Rolls eyes mad hard* The Little Rascals could have figured out the motive with just a Sherlock Holmes hat and a magnifying glass. It’s not fucking rocket science, but when it comes to Whiteness, everyone has agreed to play dumb and precious.
Very little has been said about the seven victims; they are, after all, only brown. Instead, the focus now is on the law enforcement officers who swooped in and saved the day. And that’s because in a society infected with Whiteness, even when Whiteness is the cause of wanton death and destruction (which is often the case), it has to remain central and superior and righteous and heroic and pure.
*sound of disgust*
As Toni Morrison once said: Whiteness is “like a profound neurosis that no one examines for what it is.”
Well, shit, I wish they would so that we can save ourselves from it.
Shoutout to brothaboy Damien Hooper who has been shot down for wearing a shirt with the Aboriginal flag on it before his fight. If he wore the Australian flag he wouldnt have faced any of this controversy but because he wore the Aboriginal flag he has breached Rule 50 of the Olympic Code which bans demonstrations, or political, religious or racial propoganda on any Olympic sites.
WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT!! This was an act of Pride - not propoganda! My hope is that one day we will be respectfully acknowledged as the First Nations people of this country and therefore properly represented in all that this country is involved in
You said it sista
White people just afraid because white pride and white supremacy propoganda are exactly the same thing, they expect any other act of pride from anyone else to be an act of asserting supremacy & humanity at the expense of the humanity of all others.
"Save" the "Pearls" 2: The Fanmagining (this is a novelised version of the alternate version of the Save The Pearls world)
- The World, The City, and other facts of life
The story goes that once, all people lived on the surface, and there were great cities that grew up into the skies, and the cities grew so high that they blocked out the sun. The sun, being wrathful, burned these cities to the ground and lay waste to the whole earth, releasing great oceans of water that buried the ashes of the cities. The sun, Sol she is called, and she remains wrathful, seeks the out the pearls, the palest of the peoples of the earth, tricked her, hiding their faces beneath the soil.
The story goes that once, after the seas had buried all the ashes of the cities of the earth at Sol’s request, not knowing that the pearls had hidden their faces beneath the soil, the cities of the pearls had revealed themselves, great walls rising from the dust, great doors flung open, and the whole earth hollowed out beneath so that the pearls need never set foot upon the surface and fall victim to her anger. That the pearls came in dark cloaks and spoke to the peoples of the surfaces, to the Hematite peoples, to the Amber peoples and Zircon and Sapphire peoples.
And they said to the Sapphire peoples, who were golden of skin and straight of hair, these people should serve in the houses of the city, and live among the Pearls but not be of them, for they were touched only lightly by Sol. And to the Amber and Zircon people, they were brown of skin and straight of hair, these people should work on the surface of the earth and raise the crops, for they were of the colour of the earth and not touched too deeply by Sol.
And to the Hematite people they said, these people are touched deeply by Sol, these peoples are not fully human to survive such a touch, they must be as beasts or demons, and they decreed that the Hematite peoples should labour beneath the earth and kept from the gaze of Sol that she might tempt them to further beastliness.
And the Hematite peoples and the Amber and Zircon and Sapphire peoples agreed, by and large, for the Pearls showed them wondrous things, vast warehouses of food and clothing, and there were many colours of people amongst the Pearls who tended these warehouses, and the peoples were satisfied that the Pearls would be good leaders to follow.
My name is Eden Newman, and I know that the history that is sung from the lowest pit to the highest chamber within the city is twisted, a false story implanted by the Pearls to protect themselves. I will be eighteen years old in just two weeks, and I am running out of time.
"Save" the "Pearls"
Okay here’s the thing, right…
So let’s take the assumption that Voyt makes as being essentially true: some kind of atmospheric catastrophe has caused for the sun’s light/heat/radiation to be more pronounced. The surface world is inhospitable to people with fair skin, who become sunburnt and dehydrated, and die in about two weeks of exposure(?) but otherwise it is possible to sustain human life for non-white peoples, and sustain argiculture. There is a centralised government.
So here’s how it goes down; in the period immediately after the catastrophe, those with the means to make their way into vase underground cities in order to survive, do so. These are generally the rich and powerful, and therefore, generally, white. As the outside world falls to anarchy, these groups recruit more and more outsiders in order to protect and sustain the underground cities in the short term as security, looting etc. These people are considered disposable.
Over time, these cities find common ground and decide an overall system of governance. By this point, the descendants of those who were considered disposable are still considered disposable; after all, the city was designed and built by the (White!) designers and builders for the (White!) inhabitants. Animals can live in the open air, so can darker peoples, so darker peoples are obviously more akin to animals than humans. Whiteness becomes enshrined as a sign of intelligence, good breeding, beauty, etc. and the only true sign of humanity. It may behoove the (White!) leaders not to demean themselves by lowering themselves to the level of those people who can live in the open air, since they are so obviously more akin to beast than man.
I do not see the jump from “It is more difficult for white people to survive on the surface” to “there is a topsy-turvy-turnaround in racial hierarchy and the tragic victims are the white folk”
